Hate to even mention this…but, what are the plans if it should rain Sat. night? Are there any plans for Sat. morning? IF we get to come, and I’m going to be very positive, thought I might try to have something at Mothers for our class…a brunch maybe. What do you think? Mother would just love to see everyone. And we had such a great time at the party I had for our 20th. I thought about Fri. night, but the thing at the school is then. Some people are coming so far, would be nice to entertain them Sat.

Brother Dan,
I response to your comment concerning your football catching ability, I do remember you had pretty good hands and made some circus catches. But the catch I remember best was when you seem to have caught the ball and proceeded to fall off the mountain at Beaver Creek. As you remember their football field was not flat and one corner had a steep drop off. I was sitting on the bench and saw you go up and catch the ball and when you came down you disappeared into the drop off.
On the point, you, who was the better football player, I would like to note that I was surrounded by what was probably the best bunch football players to ever play at EHS. So it would be impossible to compare.
Here was our starting lineup on the ‘67 team, as I remember.
Bud Grissom – All American tackle in High School, and All ACC at UNC
Tommy Thompson- Played left offensive guard for EHS, starting tailback for Fayettville State University
William Holthauser- Played offensive guard and middle linebacker for EHS, and played offensive guard for Wake Forest University
John Anderson- All State tailback and defensive back at EHS, played linebacker at UNC. John was probably the best athlete on a team full of very good athletes.
Johnny Charles- QB for EHS, went on the play tailback in Lenior Rhyne College’s single wing. Johnny also played in state allstar game. It is probably a toss up on whether he or Anderson was the best athlete.
Richard Grissom- Fullback and defensive end. Richard is in the Gardner Webb College Hall of Fame.
I played offensive and defensive end at EHS and played defensive end at University of South Carolina.
The other starters were very good football players, but did not play in college.
Steve Dunn -All Tri County offensive guard
Dennis Minton- A Sophomore, Big strong offensive tackle
Peegie Wagner- All Tri-County running back. After first Mt. Airy game their coach said “no one told us about Wagner”
David Reneger- David was a Sophomore and an outstanding center
James Irion- fast tough defensive back
David Maxwell- Starting defensive back who had never played football until senior year.
I hope I didn’t miss anyone.
This team caused Allegany Central High School football team to packup and leave at halftime.

Hold on!!! Let’s watch the memory comments…I sure don’t remember making that statement, but who knows what we say at 17. Thanks for remembering I DID play first chair clarinet…Worked hard for that honor and getting to play in the State Band Concert in Boone with Sammy Lou, Ralph and Roy Lee. What a good time. Hadn’t thought about that in years. Remarkable what catching up with classmates will do to bring back memories….Loved hearing about your life and sorry you’ve had some really hard times…as we all have, though. But losing a child has to be the very worst imaginable thing to ever happen. And so many of our classmates have experienced this…My heart goes out to you, Lee,Karen, Ralph and Johnny Kay, Sammy Lou and any others.
